Road Safety Advocacy Campaign at TREFFERT MalaysiaTREFFERT Malaysia held a road safety advocacy campaign at its premises on 2 October 2014 together with the Malaysian Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) and the Johor Road Safety Department (JKJR).
Many motorcyclists in Malaysia dislike wearing helmets and safety vests due to their unattractiveness. The Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) has strongly warned all motorcyclists to wear helmets and safety vests while riding on the roads. Its Assistant Director for Benefits, Mr. Jamaluddin Bin Ahmad, said “road users, irrespective of whether they are pedestrians or drivers, must also abide by the road regulations when they go to and from work every day.” He further advised them that they should overcome their ignorance and always be conscious of the importance of wearing helmets and safety vests, especially at night, for safety reasons. It has been proven that the proper use of helmets can reduce the risk of death in an accident by nearly 40 percent.Mr. Jamaluddin Bin Ahmad said this to all TREFFERT Malaysia's employees after officiating at the Closing Ceremony of the Road Safety Advocacy Programme for the state of Johor. During the road safety advocacy campaign, a total of 28 helmets were distributed to the company's employees. In addition, a one-hour seminar on road safety was given by Mrs. Aznita Binti Salleh, Safety Project Executive from the Johor Road Safety Department. The seminar was held for the first time this year at TREFFERT, with particular emphasis on motorcyclists' safety, since motorcyclists have the highest road fatality rate in Malaysia. She said a large portion of the road accidents took place when an employee was within three or four kilometres of their workplace or returning home.It is hoped that, through its collaboration with SOCSO and JKJR, TREFFERT Malaysia will be able to play a role in bringing down the road fatality rate in Malaysia and create road safety awareness amongst its employees.
