Or the rhizome is as long as the main root or even shorter with the cylindricalin, rhomboid, or herringbone shape,which the length is 1～6cm.Greyish-yellow appearance with longitudinal wrinkles,the upper part or mid lower part has ring-like striae.There are 2～3 branch roots,its fibrous roots are long, thin, not twisty and have distinct verrucous knob.Rhizome is slender, a few chunky, with sparse or dense deep scars on the upper part . Adventitious smaller, and more drooping. identification （1）
Microscopic IdentificationThe cross section: cork layer are series cells. Phelloderm isnarrow. Phloem lateral has fissure, medial parenchyma cells arranged more closely, there are scattered in the resin and contained yellow secretion. The shape of cambium layer is
ring. Xylem with broad ray, catheter scattered single or several together , and intermittently arranged radially, catheter with non lignified fiber.Parenchyma cells contains calcium oxalate cluster crystal.
The powder is yellowish-white . Resin canal pieces are easy to be seen, with yellow massive secretion.The diameter of calcium oxalate cluster crystal is 20 ~ 68 μ m, with sharpened angularity . The surface view shape of cork cells are square or polygonal, and the wall has the crinkle bending. Reticulate duct and scalariform vessel with the diameter of 10 ~ 56 μ M. There are many starch grains with single particle spheroid, hemicycle or irregular polygon, which diameters are 4 ~ 20 μ m, umbilical point or fissured; complex particles composed of 2 ~6 grains.（2）
