當(dāng)代譯苑的恒久之光——追憶一代宗師奈達(dá)

本文為作者對(duì)今年8月逝世的美國(guó)著名翻譯家尤金·奈達(dá)的懷念文章。作者回憶了與奈達(dá)相識(shí)后32年中的幾次交往,表達(dá)了作者的緬懷之情。奈達(dá)的翻譯理論,在中國(guó)以“翻譯科學(xué)”、“動(dòng)態(tài)對(duì)等”和“讀者反應(yīng)”3點(diǎn)最為著名,影響最大,也最有爭(zhēng)議,作者梳理和回顧了國(guó)內(nèi)對(duì)奈達(dá)的這3個(gè)概念的誤讀和誤判,指出,“某個(gè)翻譯理論的提出,一般都會(huì)有其語(yǔ)境性、特殊性和針對(duì)性。反過(guò)來(lái),任何好的理論,不管它有何語(yǔ)境性、特殊性或針對(duì)性,一般也都同時(shí)會(huì)有它的合理性、普適性和超時(shí)空性”。“當(dāng)我們?cè)诳隙ɑ蛸潛P(yáng)奈達(dá)的理論時(shí),我們需要意識(shí)到它可能存在的局限和不足,不要盲從;而當(dāng)我們?cè)谂u(píng)它的局限或不足時(shí),卻又不能妄加指責(zé),把那些本來(lái)合理、優(yōu)勝的部分也否定掉。尤其是,有些人在后言必稱奈達(dá)時(shí)期,常常對(duì)奈達(dá)的一些核心理論橫加批評(píng)、甚至徹底否定,如對(duì)他的動(dòng)態(tài)對(duì)等論和讀者反應(yīng)論,可是他們又不拿出、或拿不出可以用來(lái)替代的更好的理論。對(duì)此,大家是需要忌諱的。”
奈達(dá)翻譯理論研究》對(duì)奈達(dá)的翻譯理論作了較為全面、系統(tǒng)的研究,對(duì)譯界對(duì)它的研究狀況和接受情況進(jìn)行了梳理、分析,澄清了譯界對(duì)奈達(dá)理論的種種錯(cuò)誤認(rèn)識(shí),探討了譯界圍繞奈達(dá)理論進(jìn)行的論爭(zhēng)及其根源!赌芜_(dá)翻譯理論研究》以奈達(dá)理論指導(dǎo)下的(現(xiàn)代英文圣經(jīng))和(現(xiàn)代中文圣經(jīng))中的諸多譯例論證了奈達(dá)理論對(duì)翻譯實(shí)踐,尤其是對(duì)外漢翻譯實(shí)踐的指導(dǎo)意義,證明了我國(guó)譯界認(rèn)為奈達(dá)理論不適合外漢翻譯的觀點(diǎn)是錯(cuò)誤的!赌芜_(dá)翻譯理論研究》對(duì)奈達(dá)理論和金隉理論的異同之處及其原因進(jìn)行了深入探討,對(duì)金譯<尤利西斯)的得與失進(jìn)行了分析,證明了奈達(dá)理論能夠指導(dǎo)莢漢文學(xué)翻譯實(shí)踐!赌芜_(dá)翻譯理論研究》對(duì)奈達(dá)理論在漢英文學(xué)翻譯實(shí)踐中的局限性進(jìn)行了有益探索,指出了奈達(dá)理論在文學(xué)作品的美學(xué)價(jià)值的再現(xiàn)上存在不足,并從美的形式特征和非形式特征兩個(gè)方面闡明文學(xué)翻譯如何再現(xiàn)原作美學(xué)價(jià)值的問(wèn)題。
