And for this year’s October event, Schekolin decided to revise its whole show look. As the many compliments confirmed, the new image went down very well with customers and partners alike. The show’s organizers even offered Schekolin a bigger stand area than had originally been booked shortly before the event, and one that was ideally located, too. So Schekolin ended up with an even better platform on which to present the company and its wares. And the show team was particularly pleased to welcome Looser Group CEO Tim Talaat to its stand, too.Much of Schekolin’s display at this year’s LUXEPACK centred on the fully automatic spray coating facility in which the company invested about a year ago, and which has enabled it to even better meet its customers’ needs in the plastic, glass and metal perfume, cosmetics and spirits packaging fields. With intensive training on the new facility, continuous refinement work and application trials (both in-house and under production-like conditions on customers’ premises), Schekolin has also devised a number of new product developments, and many of these were presented to LUXEPACK’s discerning visitors. The show is an ideal venue for such activities, as it attracts designers and packaging specialists from well-known brand manufacturers who are all keen to see the latest packaging innovations and (in particular) their decorative potential.A new product rangeFor the manufacturers of glass packagings, Schekolin was able to showcase a water-based one-component coating system that is especially impressive in non-scratch, impact-resistance and brilliance terms. There was a lot of visitor interest, too, in the package solution for clear glass coatings that Schekolin recently added to its range. The new product package here consists of standardized colour pastes, dye solutions and effect pigments for shading directly on the coating machine.Schekolin received its first positive feedback on the new product at the fair itself, when the head of development at a leading glass packaging manufacturer which had trialled it expressed her praise. She told us that their trials with industrially pre-decorated flacons had now been concluded, and that the results were very impressive. This is extremely encouraging, especially given the tough testing standards that we know this particular customer employs. It also confirms to Schekolin that it will be well able to meet the criteria of other (slightly less demanding) packaging manufacturers. And this paves the way for the product’s broader market introduction.New market opportunitiesSchekolin had a further innovation to show at LUXEPACK on the 3D UV screen varnish front – and one that aroused interest among both plastic and glass packaging manufacturers. With an appropriate choice of screen cloth, the new varnishes here can provide flexible coatings with a strength of up to 60 micrometres for plastic packaging products.Previous products in this field have tended to be confined to thermal systems which can produce the same haptic effect but have a very small process window. UV systems have also been offered by other providers; but these have not delivered the flexibility desired, and have also precluded any subsequent overprinting of the coatings concerned. Many visitors to the Schekolin stand were keen to know if such 3D UV systems could be used with glass packagings, too. The company will certainly be looking into this now: if it’s able to develop such a product, this would clearly open up further market opportunities!Photo captions:IMG_1671 <Ready for the show: the new-look Schekolin stand>IMG_1701 <The Schekolin stand proved quite an attraction.>IMG_1706 <The stand offered visitors material fare, too.>IMG_1714 <The Schekolin stand consistently drew the crowds.>IMG_1717 <Quality cubed: the new coating for glass applications.>--------5. And as part of its activities here, the company holds an annual “Safety Refresher” for its personnel, which is followed by a fun barbecue event. The refresher offers both presentations by safety specialists and first-aid exercises that are supervised by the local Samaritans. And the barbecue, which is organized by the company’s trainees, gives everyone a chance to talk about what they have just learnt and practised in pleasant and casual surrounds. This year’s Schekolin Safety Refresher was held on ((date)). The highlights included a visit by Conradin Capaul, an authority on electrostatic charges, and his colleague Martin Gloor. Conradin’s presentation and Martin’s subsequent experiments clearly demonstrated how these charges can build up and how dangerous they can be.Despite the seriousness of the subject, Martin was wonderfully able to sensitize his listeners to it while still adding a welcome dash of humour. He tellingly demonstrated how, through ignorance or simple oversight, electrostatic charges of several thousand volts can build up – charges that can easily cause dust or vapours to combust. And by the time he told a few tales about his own experiences as a specialist accident analyst, all his audience was well aware that electrostatic charges need to be taken very seriously indeed!Photo captions:DSCN2710 <Martin Gloor outlines the dangers of electrostatic charges.>DSCN2743 <Marc Zechner mans the grill.>5.
